What hardware was used ?
Well I have to admit, that we mostly tested hardware. That’s right… the majority of hardware wasn’t pre-tested on other cooling, apart from some CPUs that were previously tested on air or singlestage phase change coolingR...

Over my time spent as a semi-enthusiast of computer hardware, I found that there was a certain disparity between customer experience and ‘professional’ reviews. Reviews are nice in that they allow you to get a feel of how products perform – they let you know what to expect when you buy a product.
However, what I found is that when I buy something based on reviews, there are always things that make themselves known upon extended use of the product that do not always reveal thems...

So after an hour long battle with the image uploader, I think I can declare victory.
Relation between memory timings and frequency
You may have wondered which kit of RAM is better, the DDR 1066MHz at 5-5-5-15 or DDR 2133MHZ at 10-10-10-30. Some people will say the DDR 1066MHz at 5-5-5-15 is better because of the tighter timings others will say the DDR 2133MHz at 10-10-10-30 is better because of the higher frequency. The answer is the actual latency is exactly the same and the DDR 2133MHz at...

Most people can’t stand the sight of aliasing, the staircase effect most noticeable on the edges of objects (or polygons to be more precise). It’s even worse when movement is involved, as the “jaggies” often appear to “crawl.” The aliasing effect is easily described by the following image (note, all images in this post are clickable thumbnails):

A pixel must be only one colour (or no colour at all). To determine the colour of a pixel, a sample...

Tired of reading one conflicting forum post about temperatures after another? This guide will help you understand some of the details behind temperature readings for current Intel processors. It also has a section for FAQs about temperatures. Some parts are a little technical but I have tried to keep it as understandable.
This guide only applies to members of the Core, Core 2 and Core i7 families of processors (including Pentium Dual Core and Core 2-based Celerons), not the older Pentium 4’...

Just got a new case this weekend and worked on it. SO first off removed the HDD bays, as I only use 1 HDD as of now, and dont really need it. Secondly a nice coat of black paint for the interiors. And then finally the cooling, with a couple of add on fans. And yes the new CPU cooler is on the way.
Painting and removal of HDD bays completed:
And finally the finished product….just one mistake, and thats the bottom fan drawing air out instead of in…am too pooped to fix it now so will ...

With the P55 Core I5 mother boards that seem to be very popular these days Gigabyte has released its first uATX version of this platform, this motherboard takes off of the same lines as the P55-UD4P which is a very solid platform and I expect the uATX version will be also.
So here is a direct link to Gigabytes website on this product.

Back for my most recent blog post after a prolonged break from the OC scene, I bring to you some fun winter air testing. I used the same setup as previously. This mainly consists of my trusty Phenom II 955 X4 BE, Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P, and Ballistix D9GTS 2GB DDR3 set.
Ahh, the familiar feeling of Canadian winter. A dreaded feeling for most, but hey, I’m an overclocker……and I like cold weather for one purpose….
As some of you may know, I had been struggling to break ...

Received this board a few days back
but only had time to test it yesterday.
msi 785GM-E65
…o0oh…140W cpu ready… hehe…
This micro ATX board uses an AMD 785G w/SB710 chipset.
I remembered SB710s support ACC by default. Feeling hopeful…
The last AM3 board I had was the 790FX-GD70, and a stellar one by far.
Hope this little one performs close to its ATX sister.
Heatpipe linking the NB and PWMsink together.
5 SataII ports should be sufficient for the regular us...

Piece Meal Upgrades pt 3
As already discussed, a piece meal upgrade is performed when a jump to an entirely new platform is not financially possible. A ground up all new part design is best and will give the best price performance ratio if properly setup. For those that cannot afford a complete rebuild though, designing a system with affordable parts that also support upgrading over an extended period of time is the only option. While more money will be spent over the life of the upgrade, re...
