Usage:

Here you can see how we hooked the Boom Boom speaker up to our laptop. The Boom Boom is a nice portable size, which you should be able to see now, as we have it paired with our laptop (above). We had it plugged in and blasting tunes while taking these pictures. The USB power connection is also plugged into the back of the laptop.
When plugged in, and your laptop powered on, you will see this blue light. If you do not see it, check your USB connection. You will also see where the other end of you USB connector plugs into the Boom Boom. It’s really very simple to set everything up.
Sound Quality Testing:
We ran three different tests with the Boom Boom speaker. First, we started the tests with gaming. It works great for games not needing surround sound, as with the two speakers right next to each other you will not get anywhere near surround sound. If you are playing a normal real time strategy game, such as Company of Heroes for instance, then the speakers work perfectly. However, if you are playing a first person shooter, the speakers may come off as a let down as you will not be able to judge location due to the physical limitations of the Boom Boom speaker. With that said, let’s be honest. If you are a serious gamer, you would not be using these speakers, so chances are for most buyers this issue won’t even come up.
The second test we ran was for music. With low and medium volume, it did a very good job with providing an acceptable reproduction of the music. The sound was nice and crisp with hardly any noticeable distortion. We felt it did a good job with these tests, but when we reached for a higher volume, you could tell that it was a portable speaker. Distortion was noticeable at higher levels, which is fairly common with smaller speakers in this price range.
We ran the final test while watching a movie. It did a good job portraying the highs and lows of the movie and the conversations were clear and crisp. You would notice some distortion, however, in especially loud explosions or action scenes. For the most part, these speakers performed well during the movie and were good enough to make it enjoyable.
Conclusion:
Overall, the Choiix Boom Boom speakers get the job done. They are portable and provide a better sound than most laptop speakers can. Being able to run the Boom Boom speakers from a USB connection makes them extremely easy to use and very manageable. The small size and lightweight of the speakers is also a plus when having to carry it around while traveling.
We also need to keep in mind that these are not speakers claiming to be a home theater system setup. They are made for portability and letting you have sound on-the-go that can provide better clarity and sound levels than normal laptop speakers. If you are looking for surround sound for games or movies, these would not be the speakers for you if that wasn’t obvious to begin with. If you just want to be able to watch a movie to pass the time while traveling, or play a game without caring about perfect sound precision, then these speakers will do the job for you.
The Boom Boom speaker does a nice job doing what is was made for, portability and better sound quality than a laptop. If this is what you are looking for, then you will be very happy with your purchase.
