Introduction
A sample from our next contender comes from Gelid. The company is based in Hong Kong with management in Swiss. The company is a fairly young player in the industry and was founded in 2008 by Gebhard Scherrer and VC Tran. Gelid is Gebhard Scherrer’s latest project after co-founding the well known Arctic Cooling brand. Gelid’s name established quickly and well in the industry, rather known for their case fan product line, Gelid now is also more determined to get a foothold in the CPU cooler market.
The Tranquillo is not Gelid’s first attempt at CPU air cooling but Gelid took some time out after the “Silent Spirit” release. The sample we will be reviewing today is actually the v2 or Rev2 of the “Tranquillo” cooler with updated design and mounting to accommodate newer socket configurations.
The Gelid Tranquillo is a tower design CPU heatsink and features 4x heatpipes which measure all 6mm in diameter. The Tranquillo cooler does not feature the popular HDT design and instead provides a traditional uncoated full copper base. The base has a small heatsink in top to enhance cooling. The design of the heatsinks body is unusual as it is shaped like a chevron. This design takes advantage of the airflow gap right between the fan and the cooler as well as extending the airflow out back where it is best.
The 6 uncoated full copper heatpipes add up to a full 1 foot in length if put together. The H612 also features a broad range of applications and installation options.

Thank you! I finally comprehend your way of centralizing and updating chart on previously published articles. I have never read your Swiftech review before yesterday; hence, I was lost on how you’d gotten your Gelid data back in April.
thank you eddie for pointing out these two points.
yes the fan is not correct and i will work on correcting it and update the review with the correct info.
the issue on P7 is indeed a left over from the previous review and it will also be corrected .
the “Delta T / Temp over Ambient @ 2.8 GHz” figure is correct and reflects the results of the Gelid tranquillo rev2.
i am a bit at a loss about the comparison chart question. yes, it is stated only as the “Gelid Tranquillo” instead of the “Gelid Tranquillo Rev2″. i presumed that it was clear at this point about which cooler is reviewed. as there are no major design differences that would effect cooling or cooling performance, the results could almost be used interchangeably.
in regards to the comparison chart itself, yes it is always the same chart and all older reviews will automatically be update with the current data. the top most data set will always reflect the most recent data and decent chronologically from there.
i have checked the polaris review and the gelid review and this applies to both as it should and is intended
Apparently, there are too many mistaken word contents in this review.
Examples:
Pg. 6 FAN#3 shouldn’t be “Cooler Master | 120×120×25 | 82.9 CFM” probably leftover from your previous Cooler Master H612PWM ”
Pg.7 under the “Delta T / Temp over Ambient @ 2.8 GHz” figure stated “The Cooler Master H612PWM hovers 10-15c degrees ….”
Pg.8 All the charts only shows “Gelid Tranquillo” instead of the main subject of this review…”Gelid Rev. 2 Tranquillo” ! The same identical Pg.8 (word-by-word) had been posted on your “Swiftech Polaris 120″ Review dated back at 2011-April -14; months before this reviews was posted. Where is the new test result data for Gelid Rev. 2 Tranquillo.
Please do elaborate on “the comparison charts are the same in every review” ? Why the result data of the test subject weren’t added to the charts for comparing? I simply couldn’t notice any updates on those 6-months aparted chatrs or the entire Pg.8 !
hello eddie, thanks for the comment.
the comparison charts are the same in every review. rather then have an older review with outdated data we decided to keep the chart itself centralized and updated. this will ensure no matter which review you are looking up you will always have all available data in one view and it will always be the most up-to-date
the Gelid cooler displayed reasonable results in our test. i personally believe it could have showed even better results as a dual fan setup but because of the design that it is not possible.
the new GX-7 from Gelid will allow just that and possible surpass the results
what makes you believe the the results are not valid?
The HSF Comparison charts are identical to your “[Review] Swiftech Polaris 120″ back in April. And the Gelid’s test results seems improbable (too good to be…) !
