Test System
For testing the OCZ Vertex 3 120GB Solid State Drive, we used the SATA 6Gbps ports on an Intel PCH67 equipped motherboard. Future tests will be moving to a dedicated RAID card to provide linear comparisons between all SSDs tested at TechREACTION.
All software testing is done in 3 separate environments. Clean, Fill and Dirty testing. Clean testing involves “Brand New in Box” performance, and is achieved using a secure erase between each battery of tests. Fill testing involves copying a standard OS install to the drive loaded with some applications and games of approximately 70GB. No secure erase is done between tests. Dirty testing follows fill tests. More data is copied to the drive to bring it close to 99% capacity, then the drive is quick formatted from within windows and a quick run is done through all tests. (In an attempt to beat GC/TRIM).
