The Gelid GX-7 ships with a single Wing 12PL 1600RPM fan andmounting hardware for:

  • Intel: Socket 1155, 1366, 1156 & 775
  • AMD: Socket FM1, AM3+, AM3, AM2+ & AM2

The Top View of the Gelid GX-7 features a Black ‘Vented’ Look with the names ‘Gelid’ and ‘GX-7′ embossed into the plastic. This is not just for show though, the center of the fins on top and bottom of the heatsink feature an opening to vent heat from the fin itself, eliminating what Gelid calls hotspots.

The Side View of the Gelid GX-7 shows the condensed heatpipes of the GX-7 as well as the perfectly spaced fins of the heatsink.

The Bottom View of the Gelid GX-7 once again shows the contact area absolutely saturated with the 7 heatpipes of the GX-7 later on we will look into what this means for performance with the GX-7

Here is what Gelid has to say about their innovative cluster heatpipe design.

Traditional heat pipe arrangement of high-end heatsink heatpipes are usually soldered on one row. Therefore the heat absorption capacity of the outer heatpipe will be negatively affected when there are more than 5 heatpipes.

To solve this problem a special array of heatpipes was used on GX-7 to take full advantage of all 7 6mm heatpipe heat transfer capacity. On GX-7 two heatpipes were soldered on top of three middle heatpipes.

Gelid GX-7 Fins

The Fins of the Gelid GX-7 are evenly spaced and quite thick, at no point during the review were we concerned about damaging or bending them.

Gelid GX-7 Shape

The Gelid GX-7′s unique shape allows cool air to reach the center of fins more effectively resulting in better cooling. The unique heatsink shape supports dual fans.

One of the many surprises while reviewing the Gelid GX-7 was the contact area. It has been milled to perfection as you will see in these 3 photos.

Installing the Gelid GX-7 in 4 photos

There is so much Gelid is trying to do with this cooler, the biggest fear we had was that it may have a clunky, terrible installation. Boy were relieved once we got it installed. The Intel Installation is a very straight foreword process.

  • Screw bracket to heatsink
  • Place Backplate/Screw to motherboard
  • Apply thermal paste
  • Mount and Screw heatsink to backplate

Note: that the heatsink does not come close to making contact with ram, or large chipset heatsinks, which makes this a great design on Gelids part
