Once the realm of businesses or advanced network setups, Network-attached Storage (NAS) has been gaining in popularity over the years as prices continue to fall and ease of use increases. The Silverstone DC01 Network Data Center brings Network Storage to the home with a number of extra features and simple to use interface accessible from any PC on your home network as well as zero effort Internet connectivity. Adopting new technologies such as iTunes server, DLNA and BitTorrent downloading makes the DC01 much more than a simple NAS.

The SilverStone DC01 Network Data Center is a simple to use Network Storage Device that supports an internally mounted 2.5” storage device. RAID is supported (0/1/JBOD) through the External SATA port located on the back of the device. 2 USB ports provide further expandability using either external USB drives or to use the device as a print server. Network connectivity is provided through the on board Gigabit Ethernet port.

Thank you for this detailed review report! I’m currently looking for an equivalent NAS solution or at least similar non-plastic case and fanless low-voltage hardware design for single or max. dual 2,5″ bay support.

Unfortunately SST didn’t released any Firmware Updates in the year 2012, furthermore the Black edition (DC01B) isn’t really available in Europe anymore. This brings me to the question, if this year it’s already time for an improved follow-up device that has e.g. USB 3.0 and SATA-600 specification in order to max out RAID 0 setup with two SSD’s being used.
