Mass Effect 3 PC Review

Personal Thoughts & Conclusion

Mass Effect 3 is in our opinion, a very good action RPG game that will satisfy many a gamer who decides to purchase it. The visuals of the game are very good, and you don’t need a killer system to run it decently. The replay value of the game is pretty high considering there are six different classes you can choose from, and that decisions in the game can change the game in some form or another. Add to that the multiplayer component, and the promise of future DLC, and you will have a game that you won’t be deleting from your harddrive anytime soon.

Now here’s sort of the bad news. As long time fans of the game we were a bit disappointed, by how the final chapter in the franchise played out.

Now the ending of the game has stirred many many discussions among players for months now. It seems the majority of players didn’t like the ending, and felt cheated. Investing all this time into a game, and to have it end the way it did just didn’t sit right with people. It was so bad that gamers took to starting a campaign to have Bioware change the ending of the game to appease players. Also a popular theory has arisen called the Indoctrination Theory which attempts to explain the ending. Some say that the theory is what really happened in the end of Mass Effect 3 while others say it is fans grasping at straws to justify an unsatisfying ending by so many. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the theory…Tada! Here it is. Aren’t we nice? : ). Please note that the video contains spoilers. Watch at your own discretion, and take from it what you will.

Our issue with the game doesn’t center around the ending even though we felt it could of been a bit more flushed out as questions we felt since playing Mass Effect were not answered, and new ones seemed to have been raised. Our maim problem with the game stemmed from some of the results of our choices we made in the previous games being under emphasized, not having any impact in the story whatsoever, or just plain ignored like they never happened. Since playing the first Mass Effect game there were decisions we purposely replayed the game to make thinking its consequence would be something big in the later games, and should not be missed. (for people who have played the games since the first, the Rachni’s contribution to the final battle comes to mind). Again it did make us groan a bit that we didn’t get to see what we thought were going to see by doing action A instead of action B. Maybe we expected too much, and built it up in our minds as something bigger then it should be. However with talking to other vets of the franchise it seems we are not alone in thinking there should of been more of a reward in the actions we made so maybe we aren’t crazy after all.

Another thing that bothered us was that the game didn’t seem like it was polished. For the most part the game performed, and looked great but some of the glitches we mentioned seemed like things that should of been caught prior to the game going gold. In our minds were believed Mass Effect 2 was more polished then 3, but does it really take away from the overall experience of Mass Effect 3? Somewhat. Thing is you’d think for a highly anticipated finally to a popular franchise that the final installment would have been examined with a fine tooth comb before release.

So in a nut shell what are we trying to say? Pretty much that Mass Effect 3 overall is a good game which people will like playing we feel, but could of been better in regards to how they tied things up. There is talk of a free DLC coming which is said to clear up what happened in the end of the game. Maybe this DLC will change the opinion of what seems to be the majority of players’ minds that Mass Effect 3 ending does not suck. We’ll wait and see. BTW as a rule you really should never take any game review as gospel. You should play the game yourself, and judge for yourself. We are just giving you our opinion of the game. You’re opinion maybe totally different. You’re not stupid. Use that thing between your ears, and make up your own mind. Don’t let anyone do it for you.

Lata gamers!
