The OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB SATA 6 Gbps SSD is a firecracker of a solid state storage drive and was reviewed a month ago here at at TechREACTION. SandForce drives offer the ultimate in performance while maintaining an excellent price point. Improvements in SandForce’s internal Garbage Collection as well as TRIM support in RAID on Intel have made combining a couple of drives a “piece meal” upgrade option instead of purchasing a single large SSD when first building a PC.
This week we put the OCZ Vertex 3 to the test and see how two of the drives perform on TR’s new LSI RAID controller. This is done now to provide a good comparison test for all SSDs reviewed from now on, it provides an even comparison point no matter what CPU/Chipset or drivers are used. As more SSDs are reviewed they will be combined in a database for comparative testing in both single drive and RAID configurations.
