The past 10 years or so has seen a number births of tech companies. Many of them did not only make an entry into the market but they set a new pace. Competition is strong and to stand out from the crowd a company has to be an all round good performer. NZXT fits the bill here. With still less then 10 years on the market, a healthy product line and an expansion to cover international markets one would think that there is something that has to fall short. Well, it’s not the Havik 140. The Havik 140 is NZXT’s entry into the market and what an entry it is. It’s not taking the crown but it certainly takes a shot at it. We have come across other companies with first releases that are rather underwhelming. Not the Havik 140.
By the mere looks and spec one would be able to tell that this is not a product for the shelve. We have seen that before and learned not to judge a book by it’s cover. After taking the Havik 140 through it’s paces we were glad not to be disappointed. The Havik 140 was not only build for performance but for silence. Although there are 2 of the 140mm fans used for the Havik the noise level remained very acceptable. Because of the size of the fans they can spin much slower to achieve enough airflow for the cooler. We noted though that the fans clearly reach beyond the heatsink which means there is some wasted airflow while at the same time some areas of the cooler are not covered by the fans at all. This is not a new phenomena and by using a larger fan the dead areas are much smaller.
The heatsink itself is a sturdy build. The 46 fins are made of aluminum, a bit thicker then usual and mounted to the 6 copper heatpipes. There are no fancy cut patterns. There is really not much fanciness about the heatsink or the cooler. A symmetric cuts with clear lines and concave front and back. The cooler base is copper with nickel coating and a good finish.
The NZXT Havik 140 is available at retailers now and has a current MSRP of $59.99 USD. The Newegg price is the same as of 05/20/2012. The performance of this cooler makes this a very good value and a recommended purchase.
We would like to thank NZXT for making this review possible and our readers for your continued support.
