Notable Hardware Features

On this board ASUS added a couple of features that should be noted outside of the standard specifications list:

ASMedia PCIe SATA controller: This controller adds two ports that free up the native Intel  SATA ports for data intensive RAID usage. These ports do not support ATA Packet Interface (ATAPI) devices which is not an issue for most users. If you do not use the raid function these ports may seem useless but having two more SATA III ports as well the option for expanding your file storage is a bonus.

ASMedia® USB 3.0 controller: Adding four more USB 3.0 ports into the mix may not seem like much but most of us like to keep pace with technology; even if we do not necessarily like it. Today (more than ever) our lives are becoming more digitized and more and more devices are being manufactured with USB interfaces and the 3.0 specification is quickly gaining ground. From microscopes and advanced optics to HD Video recorders to media capture devices to external storage and more, the USB 3.0 spec is needed and the more the better.

On board switches and buttons: The TPU switch, EPU switch, MemOK! button and USB BIOS Flashback button are useful additions here that make life a little easier.

  • The TPU switch: Unleash your performance with ASUS’ simple onboard switch or AI Suite II utility. The TPU chip offers precise voltage control and advanced monitoring through Auto Tuning , GPU Boost and TurboV functions. Auto Tuning offers a user friendly way to automatically optimize the system for fast, yet stable clock speeds, while TurboV enables unlimited freedom to adjust CPU frequencies and ratios for optimized performance in diverse situations.
  • The EPU switch: Tap into the world’s first real-time PC power saving chip through a simple onboard switch or AI Suite II utility. Get total system-wide energy optimization by automatically detecting current PC loadings and intelligently moderating power consumption. This also reduces fan noise and extends component longevity!
  • MEM OK Button: Migrating components from one system to another sometimes involves compatibility issues. The MEM OK button simply takes the guess work out of part of that migration. One push and you know that your old memory is compatible with your new build.
  • USB Flashback button: The USB flashback button allows an update in case of a BIOS failure. Though this board does not have a dual BIOS it does have the same functionality.
