Introduction and Photo Gallery

We thank Giada for presenting us with – for our scrutiny – the D2305, dual core i5 (3427U) miniPC. Up front we liked the look and feel (solid) of this unit and in the end came to respect its functionality and capability. What we did not like are the things that cannot be helped in a miniPC. These items may be noted but will not be held against this unit; as it is “Par for the course”.

In the front of the D2305 we find a flash card reader, a USB 3.0 port, audio in and out ports and the BIOS reset. The most notable feature here is the USB port. The ports are tight. This provides a very good connection that will help prevent the mild corrosion that occurs in non-gold plated USB connections; which could lead to having to replug USB components from time to time (this applies to all USB ports on this unit).

Moving to the rear, we find an acceptable number of ports in USB 2.0 (2x) and 3.0 (2x) flavors, 1x E-SATA port, DVI port, LAN port, HDMI port and an optical out port.Unfortunately our HDMI cable and our optical cable had connectors larger than could be used simultaneously and we were forced to use a DVI to HDMI adapter for our testing. Though not a flaw, it is a technical note about design and the nature of the miniPC.

The cooling for this system is taken care of by an underside intake and rear exhaust. This is a good setup for lowering dust infiltration and placing the unit on top of a piece of cheese cloth or window unit washable AC filter material can almost eliminate internal cleaning.
