Testing
For testing we used both compressible ATTO Disk benchmark testing as well as Crystal DiskMark 3 x64 using a random fill pattern. Since the package advertises SATA 6G support, we used the Intel PCH67 (B3) SATA 6G ports on the P8P67 deluxe for comparison. A 120GB Corsair Force 3 SSD was used for testing.
ATTO Benchmark
ATTO uses a compressible data set with a queue depth of 4 in all test sizes. This provides near best case scenarios for drive performance.
On the SATA 6G adapter the Force series shines and reaches its true potential. 551 MBps read speeds and 515 MBps write speeds are attainable. Once plugged into the Raven enclosure performance was not nearly so good. 240 MBps read and almost 185 MBps write speeds. Testing was again done on the SATA 2 port and normal SandForce performance of 283/267 were achieved.
Not a screamer the USB 3.0 interface definitely improves performance versus USB 2.0.
Crystal DiskMark
Using Random test data is the hardest test to run on SandForce drives and returns “worst case” performance results.
Once again the SATA 6G scores are higher than USB 3.0 marks. However the results are much closer than they were in ATTO testing. The SATA results topped out at 142 MBps read and 210 MBps write speeds, while the Raven enclosure managed to grab 170 and 100 respectively.
4K results were worse on the external bus, still far better than any mechanical drive is capable of achieving.
