Today we have more good-looking products from Incipio. They sent over two different sleeves for our 13″ MBP, MacBook Pro. First we have the gray 13″ Honu sleeve, then we have the 13″ Selvage denim sleeve. These are not as much savers as they are protectors, which we will make clearer later in the review. The sleeves should be a perfect fit around our 13″ MBP leaving little excess room. This is supposed to keep the weight down on the actual sleeve to make using them an option without breaking your back. Now, lets’ move on and get into the “nitty-gritty” review of these sleeves!

The Honu and Selvage Sleeves:
We have are stacked the two sleeves next to each other in the above picture. The sleeve on the left is the gray Honu from Incipio. The Honu has a quilted hexagon design stitched on the nylon covering. The denim Selvage comes with a front pocket for storing papers, if needed. As you can see from these two sleeves from Incipio, they offer a variety from nylon to denim in order to suit everyone’s needs.
Once we start examining the insides of the sleeves, we notice that Incipio has used a soft, non-abrasive microfiber material to line the interior to provide extra protection from scratches. The Honu has a great looking bright blue interior that really stands out when you see it. The Honu has a top and side sliding entrance, while the Selvage has only a side entrance. Neither is better or worse in our eyes, it really just depends on what you like since both work great!
We have placed our 13″ MBP inside the Honu to give you an idea of what it looks like in use. It fits perfectly, but we left our MBP out of the sleeve a little just so you know it is actually in there. The Honu provides a snug fit once it is all zipped up.
Now with out MBP in the denim Selvage sleeve, you can see how snug the Selvage holds it on the sides. There is not a lot of wiggle room once the zipper is closed, which is a good thing. The tan seam in toward the zipper is your side pocket you get on the Selvage, which can be used to hold papers or small electronics.
Conclusion:
Well, once we had time to play with both the sleeves and use them in real world tests, we found they work great for their intended purpose. When we said they were protectors and not savers at the beginning we were correct. They protect your MBP from getting scratches or nicks from tossing it into a backpack or things like that. They will not save your MacBook Pro from a fall or things of that nature. However, the sleeves are not meant to do that, so we cannot hold that against these sleeves in the slightest.
Both Sleeves are lightweight and will not add any noticeable weight carrying your MBP around. The zippers on both sleeves are good quality and did not feel cheap like they would snap off after a month of use. Although, we could not test these sleeves for months to have a definite answer for our theory, we have just seen a lot of cheap zippers and quality zippers in our time. Incipio has the Honu listed at an MSRP of $34.99 and the Selvage listed at an MSRP of $49.99. With the high resale values of Apple products it is a good idea to protect your products as much as possible to get the higher resale price. With these Incipio sleeves you can look stylish and protect your laptop at the same time.
The Incipio MacBook Pro 13″ Honu and Selvage Laptop Sleeves both receive the Techreaction.net Gold Silicon Award!
