The Secret World Review

Gameplay & Visual Continued

PvP

Now what review about a MMO would not be complete without covering the PvP section of the game?

PvP in the game is under the title “Secret War”. Pretty fitting title.

You battle in three different areas around the world with each location having a different type of PvP mode.

The first is located is Fusang Projects in China. The mode here is a Persistent Warzone where there are no time limits. You try to capture facilities by destroying gun turrets that are defending it. Once that is done you must subdue the facility’s custodian to, interact with the facilities control panel which will allow you to take control of both the facility, and the custodian of said facility. You know I don’t think we have ever typed the word “facilities” so much in one section. SMH. Now other society members can come and try to repair the facility’s (there we go again) defenses to bring the gun turrets online, and prevent a seizure of the facility. Since this type of PvP is persistent your controlled facility can be attacked, and possibly taken over at any time.

The second is in Stonehenge in the United Kingdom. This is a Battlefield PvP which is a conquest type gameplay. Each of the three societies has five players, and they must capture and hold positions on the map to gain points. The first society to reach 750 points wins. Points can be obtained by holding capture points, and by taking out enemy players.

The last mode is in the lost city of El Dorado. This mode is also a Battle PvP, but is the Secret World’s interpretation of capture the flag. Difference being instead of flags you are capturing relics. Each team must retrieve a relic then bring it back to their base to secure it. Only one player can carry the relic at a time, and if the carrier is defeated the relic is up for grabs. There are four relics in all, and if one society holds all for relics for 120 seconds they win.

Overall all of the PvP modes were pretty fun to play. We do advise that with any PvP you do not try to jump right into it as soon as you enter the game. You will get pwned. Badly. One thing of to note is that when you do enter a PvP match you do not wear whatever clothing you currently have your character wearing. Instead you wear your societies, uniform which in all honesty makes a-lot of sense. You can choose from three types. Here’s a pic of us in uniform. Just thought you may like to see.: )

Conclusion

So what have we learned? The Secret World is actually a pretty decent game with great ideas. The combat system to us was a bit too early 1990′s for us, but this is something not everyone would be bothered with. Visually its a pretty decent looking game but could use a touch up here and there. What makes you want to play this game is the story. Its one of the more interesting stories we have experienced in a MMO in a while. The game has seemed to have acquire a bit of a following, but will it be enough to keep the servers running? Time will tell.

Currently the game is being sold for $49.99USD at places like Amazon.com, and EA’s origin.

We here at Techreaction.net don’t give awards for games. We let you the reader decide whether, or not a game we report on is something that would be worth your time, or a complete pass. Hopefully our review has given you a better understanding of what the game is about, and helped you to make up your mind about whether, or not to try it out.

Happy gaming, people!
