A look At the Lepa 850W:

With your first glimpse of the LEPA, you can see the almost fully modular PSU setup. You will have 2 PCI-E connections, giving you the ability to run SLI or Xfire.  Then you have the 4 Molex/SATA/FDD connections as well.

Looking at the supplied sticker on the LEPA 850W, you can see the single 12V rail rating of 70A, which is very good. Compare that to lesser quality PSU’s and you will notice a huge difference in amperage readings there.

The Yate Loon fan used by LEPA is a great choice, as Yate Loon is a great fan company with quality fans. The 140mm D14BH-12 fan used is rated at: 12V, 2800 RPM, 140 CFM, 48.5 dB.

The AC receptacle featuring 2 Y caps.

The electrolytic caps are provided by Nippon Chemi-Con and are rated at 105°C.

The modular PCB has the VRM’s installed on it to help lower voltage drops. The PWM controller for both VRM’s is also located on there.

The Panasonic single hold-up capacitor is the basic 470μF, 400V, 105°C. The main switchers are two Infineon fets configured in double forward topology. On the secondary side, the +12V rail has five fets. The PCB that houses those 5 fets inlists the help of the PSU’s fan and three bus bars on its solder side to keep them cool. It does seem they got a little sloppy with the white glue, as you can see it is just slapped on there.

Cables:

With the shots above you get to look at all the cables included in your LEPA 850W package. You the have non-modular motherboard 20+4 pin, 4+4 pin, and an 8 pin CPU connection. You will get four 6+2 pin  PCI-E connections along with 12 SATA connections. To wrap up the connections you will have four 4 pin molex and 1 FDD connections.

Conclusion:

With the MSRP of $149.99, the LEPA 850W looks to be a solid choice. The almost fully modular setup of this PSU is a big plus in our eyes, giving you a lot better wire management solution in your case. The quality of components with mostly all japanese capacitors used and nice job of soldering wires is very good and should help make this an extremely reliable unit. The Channel Well Technology on the PUQ platform is always a safe bet to use since other great companies like Corsair still use it as well. Having the Gold efficiency level is huge for a lesser known company. It will help people trust them and give them a shot, if they feel they are buying quality. Some of the smaller companies or lesser known ones use cheap components and sell at cheap prices, well you definitely get what you pay for!

So far, with our overview, the LEPA 850W G850-MAS power supply earns the Techreaction.net Gold Silicon Award! If it performs as well as we think it will with the quality construction and components  this will be a great PSU for years to come.
