The Hydra Pro’s packaging differs from the Recon as Bitfenix has chosen a more dominate black box art with the Bitfenix name, and icon shown in white. The rear of the box shows you the features you can expect to utilize with the Hydra Pro. Pretty straight forward. Five channel fan control with 30 watt per channel offered. LED light control is said to be included, but this feature only works when using BitFenix Spectre fans. Unfortunately we were not supplied with Spectre Fans so this feature of the controller could not be tested by us : (
The Hydra Pro comes in a similar red anti static packaging as the Recon. With the Hydra Pro you get the controller itself, mounting screws, and the manual. Unlike the Recon, no additional cables are supplied.
Taking a closer look at the Hydra Pro we see the same craftsmanship we saw in the Recon. All cables were well secured, and overall it was a very well put together controller.
The Hydro does not sport a touch screen display, but rather is more direct in its controls. Levels on the bezel control the RPM of each fan. There is no display as to what the RPM of the fans are running at. Moving the levels to the top maxes out the speed of the respected fan. Pushing the levels all the way down shuts down the fans. Albiet it is not as fancy as the Recon, the Hydra Pro’s controls are more to the point, and there are users who would appreciate the directness.
You will know the controller is operational with a light being turned on on the right side of the device. The on / off button is located on the left side of the Hydra Pro.
Like the Recon, the Hydra Pro cables are labeled so there is little chance of you confusing what cable is what. The controller is powered via molex. The cables’ lengths are similar to the Recon’s cable’s length. There are no sensor probes. As we mentioned earlier the controller does have LED fan control capabilities, but you will need to have a Bitfenix fan to have the option available to you. Even though we don’t have any Bitfenix fan’s to test this option out, least we can show you pics of the cables.
