Recently we received a new memory kit from Crucial that is part of their Ballistix line. We decided to test this kit on the AMD platform to see how they would fare. Considering that AMD can be picky with certain modules, we found this particular set quite interesting. Let’s take a closer look shall we?
Based on the target consumer and price range of these modules, we decided against testing with SuperPi 32m and instead opted to test ultimate stability using Prime 95 (Blend) for a minimu...

Solid State Drives are quickly becoming an important upgrade in most consumer PCs. They offer increased performance with decreased power consumption and heat, and are smaller and lighter than standard mechanical drives. All solid state drives are not created the same however, and OCZ has proven that once again. Our review sample is a 60GB Vertex2 extended capacity SSD, part number OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G. It utilizes the Sandforce SF-1200 controller and it’s specifications can be found here. It i...

Kingston HyperX DDR3 ‘LoVo’ OC testing
Just a quick look at a memory kit from Kingston, namely a set from their somewhat new ‘LoVo’ series. Judging by the name its a low voltage kit, so not a kit directly aimed at the enthusiast market. But word has it they might be worth a look after all!
According to their site, Kingston currently offers three versions of their ‘LoVo’ kits, 1333, 1600 and 1866 MHz. But there also seem to be an 1800 MHz kit listed at some shops, possible a replaceme...

Every once in a while you come across an idea in computer hardware technology that makes you wonder why nobody has thought of it before. Usually they are simple but have very practical applications that make computer assembly much easier for the enthusiast. Modular power cables for example, were introduced by Ultra and currently hold the patent for its use. ASUS with their Q-connectors, etc. Today we look at NZXT’s USB Expansion module, a simple device that does exactly what its name impl...

Introduction
Recently the good folks at OCZ sent us a set of budget ram to review.
Now I know most of you hardcore overclocker’s are saying “pfft…” however, with budget RAM sometimes and often many times there can be found diamond’s in the rough.
With that said, let’s see what you get.
As we can see, the packaging is simple as to be expected with a budget set of memory.
The platform we chose to test these sticks today consists of the following.

Chew* does it again! There I am, waiting for my eyes to bleed as I sit in my cubicle, and suddenly my old pal Chew* delivers this little gem. Apparently Brian has been very busy tweaking his Corsair GTX2’s on Asus’s new Crosshair IV Formula. While playing around with timings and ganged mode, Chew* was able to get his Corsair GTX2 2250MHz C8 sticks all the way to 2022MHz at CAS 6 with just 1.725v!
Additional important specs include an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, air cooling on every...

What happens when u run out of space on a memory stick but u have some micro SDHC cards laying around. You get a photofast cr5400, the cr5400 uses 2x micro sdhc and uses JBOD on them to make it a giant memory stick pro duo for your PSP or Sony camcorder. Photo fast claims faster speeds and that u can use 2 of any card (currently 16GB is all that’s offered for SDHC,) but how dose it do.
I will start with a disclaimer i got this card from ebay so it may be counterfeit, and all parts are...

I have always been an OCZ and Patriot RAM type of guy for as long as I have been working with computers. Moving to Mushkin was a big step out of my comfort zone to say the least. I have heard a lot of talk about how amazing Mushkin is over the years, so I decided to take a chance. After finally getting time to mess around with the RAM, I was pretty excited to see what these could do. We will see if that chance paid off when I get into the testing of the RAM. Let’s dance, shall we?

Introduction
We’ve seen most major memory manufacturers releasing new products optimized for the LGA1366 platform. Reaching speeds above 2000MHz at 1.65v is testament to how far things have come since hitting 1250MHz at 2.3v on our DDR2 sticks was reason for enthusiasts to brag. Now with Bloomfield we all know that we cannot simply push more voltages, provide moving air to the modules and hope we end up with a winning kit. That’s simply not the case. There is now a limit of 1.65v wh...

I had a chance to run a kit of G.Skill F3-12800CL7T-6GBPI Memory, Tri-Channel kit for Intel Core I7 CPU’s, through some tests the past few days. Before I go into all the results I want to touch on the market for these kits.
If you do a search on Newegg you come up with 36 listings which range in price from $145.99 to $283.99 with kits in 6-7-6-18 to 9-9-9-27 timings, and 1.5v to 1.65v. So as you can see, this range of memory has a pretty wide selection of kits for what ever you are loo...

Today, we had the extremely well-known Western Digital VelociRaptor series hard drive land on our doorstep. We will be looking at the WD VelociRaptor 300GB GLFS version. There are 3 versions of this drive, BLFS, GLFS, and HLFS. The HLFS and GLFS models are designed to fit into 3.5″ drive bays. However, the BLFS is a compact form of the VelociRaptor, designed to fit 2.5″ mounts. Do not try to install this into a notebook, because it will not fit due to its thickness.
