With the success of the GTX480 release, Nvidia is looking to continue to provide top quality products with their new line of 4XX series GPU’s. When we reviewed the GTX480 a couple of weeks ago, it was built on the older Fermi architecture, GF100. The GTX460 we have today is made with a new Fermi-based architecture, GF104. The GF104 primarily boasts lower power consumption and lower temperatures. We will be diving in to see how the GF104 stacks up to the older GF100 in order to see if the...

After seeing plenty of topics in various tech forums regarding the decision between the GTX480 or the HD5870, we figured it was time to chime in on the debate. With support from ASUS allowing us to review these two cards, the ENGTX480 and EAH5870, we have all of the information we need for this stand alone head-to-head. We hope that after seeing the comparisons we can help put to rest some of the debates and provide a clear cut answer to “which is the best for my money?”.

The great people at ASUS have just sent us Nvidia’s latest. The ASUS ENGTX 480 is what we have in our hands today! With so much hype prior to launch and a few uncertainties floating around at the time of release, we will soon be able to provide more insight into what this card is capable of. A lot of people have been claiming that the GTX 480 will burn a house down with it’s heat output. Well, hopefully not for our sake, and we will be testing temperatures to give you some solid numb...

After the Nvidia GeForce GTX 400 series launch event, I was lucky enough to grab an interview with Nvidia’s Senior PR Manager of Consumer Products, Bryan Del Rizzo. Bryan was kind enough to give us sometime and answered each of my questions in a detailed manner, which we appreciated. Here is what he had to say…
(UPDATED: Bryan was very tired when he did this interview with me and made a mistake in mentioning that the GeForce did not contain hardware functionality for Double-Prec...

Done by the user Liquid Cooling
LiquidCooling had a broken 8800 gtx that shows artifact and he read that if you bake an 8800 gtx, you can remove this problem.
So he tried:
Unfortunately the card did only one boot after the bake session and could pass a 3dmark 06 before dieing again.

In the world where Nvidia “Fermi” graphics cards had been so long awaited, speculations are still the only thing most of us have. But speculations being unreliable, we can only assume that time will tell the tale. Apparently guys at Chiphell forums think otherwise. In fact, they just posted 3DMark06 benchmark results for the upcoming GTX 470. Question of course is if those are in fact legit numbers or yet another speculation on someones part. If those turn up to be true, Nvidia is he...

My goal with this multi allotment bloodbath of tests, benches, overclocks, and all out mayhem is to explore an assortment of questions and myths and all around shenanigans accompanied with all the above. Now you may be sitting there thinking, “Well Duke no one cares about old 775 socket CPUs and for sure don’t care about reviews they have seen on other sites.” For you I say people do care, my fan club cares, and I care. This review will cover many questions and one being is it ...

Got to love the holidays! Good food, good friends, and hopefully good tech support from BFG. My 280 has started to show all the wonderful signs of a dying card. Play a map or 2 here and there and it locks up the computer turning my screen into a wide array of multi colored boxed. Then once the reality sets in of what just happened I hit the reset button and try to go on with my life. Losing a card as fine as this one is sort of like not getting the last cookie on the plate or getting drilled in ...

Well as I seem to be one of the very few who still hangs on to the classics. Yep you heard me, I said classics! The 8800GT was ahead of its time and absolutely dominated anything you through at it. It was such a beast I would not sell it when the next generation of cards came out. Heck, i still own it now so that is a few more generations it has stuck with me. It still plays all the games I want it to, Modern Warefare 1 & 2, Counter Strike Source, Team Fortress 2. Yes, I do realize it wont p...

The Piecemeal Upgrade pt4
Data Protection: Redundancy, backups, offline and online storage.
With limited funds in a single PC household it is important to have a PC that is never down for too long. One of the key problems associated with piecemeal upgrades however is the need to occasionally reinstall the operating system. This can be a nightmare trying to back up documents, photos, settings, applications as well as operating system tweaks one may prefer. Learning how to properly maintain y...

Most people can’t stand the sight of aliasing, the staircase effect most noticeable on the edges of objects (or polygons to be more precise). It’s even worse when movement is involved, as the “jaggies” often appear to “crawl.” The aliasing effect is easily described by the following image (note, all images in this post are clickable thumbnails):

A pixel must be only one colour (or no colour at all). To determine the colour of a pixel, a sample...

Piece Meal Upgrades pt 3
As already discussed, a piece meal upgrade is performed when a jump to an entirely new platform is not financially possible. A ground up all new part design is best and will give the best price performance ratio if properly setup. For those that cannot afford a complete rebuild though, designing a system with affordable parts that also support upgrading over an extended period of time is the only option. While more money will be spent over the life of the upgrade, re...

Components
The longevity of your computer components varies wildly, with the most expensive pieces often being a top performer for the shortest period of time. In order from longest lasting to shortest Hard Disk Drive/ Optical Disk Drive, Power Supply Unit, Video card, Memory, Motherboard, CPU. This breakdown is purely subjective, and while easily could instigate discussion on what pieces do have the longest longevity citing specific models of components, for brevity’s sake we will continu...
