What camera brand(s) do you prefer?

personally i prefer the Canon lines of cameras. But my brothers girlfriend rants and raves about Nikon all the time. And i have to admit her camera is pretty damn awesome too. I think she has the D600 or something like that.

My father is professional photographer and he uses all canon bodies with various other lenses here and there. I naturally am a fan of cannon as well but I love the Lumix DMC-LX3 I have at home. It's really great for project logs and such.

I'm not too picky since I rarely use a camera but the Kodak I have now is sufficient enough.

Always liked Canon and Nikon so on a unrestricted budget i'd go one or the other but if i was looking for a camera right now based on a price/features ratio that fits my budget i would probably get a Pentax K20D.

i dont' own any DSLR, but i do have a sony dsc-d77 sitting here :) It's pretty nice for a compact camera.

But for DSLR, Canon is the preferred brand.. tho i heard amazing things about Pentax.

I'm not really sure what brand, but I figure that any camera I would want, I couldn't afford.

I prefer P&S just because of ease of use and decent macro abilitites.......I was using a nikon L12 for quite some time, once I was familiar with its weaknesses I nailed some preety decent shots.......

I ended up losing it and grabbed an even better macro camera ( canon A720IS ). As with all cameras if they take really decent macros they aren't the greatest for shooting scenery, this camera has an optional lens kit though.

Couple shots I have pulled off with it in macro mode no lens kit..... poor lighting, and freehand ( no tripod )

I was letting my sister use my Kodak Easyshare 430 last year. It now has a smashed LCD screen the you have to flick the lens to get the shutter to open, the lens sometimes refuses to come out (I have a feeling that something sticky got into it hence the Lens and shutter problems) and it still takes decent pictures.

There is a learning curve with point and shoot cameras. Mine for instance has about .25-.5 second delay between button press and picture snap, so you have to learn to "time" your shoots.

Will probably get another Kodak after this one.

Reading reviews the nikon Coolpix are very highly rated with good ISO etc. So we got a decent deal on one for my niece for Christmas, and I hate it. Its real small and thin which is nice, but it needs adjusting or something. Battery life is scant, maybe 20-30 pictures and a video, never have time to fill a 256MB SD card before battery needs recharging.

Have not been able to figure out how to disable flash for those macro shots of computer parts :) Color on it is awful too. I am sure its just a matter of learning and tuning the camera, but after 3 years of trouble free service from my Kodak despite the abuse it took last year, I will not be getting a Nikon again.

Well, my current camera is the Fuji S602 Zoom. When I got it, it was apparently one of the better ones out there.

That much being said, I have been looking for a new camera for a while and Cannon has one feature that really has me leaning towards them. They have an adapter for Cannon video cameras that will let you use the lenses from the DSLR product line. I am sure that there must be other companies that offer that but I have not run into it anywhere else as yet. Still, the idea that I can put my still camera lenses on my video camera is attractive.

I pick Canon for my DSLR needs because of their large list of compatible lenses
