Hi folks,
I'm in the process acquiring the equipment I need to get my 920 hit the 4Ghz mark and surpass it. My goal is to hit the World Record for AIR cooling for the 920. The record (http://www.ripping.org/database.php?cpuid=890) is currently 4.313Ghz for air.
Update April 7th
Suicide run of 4214.66 MHz (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=542661). Placing me 3rd overall worldwide (http://www.ripping.org/database.php?cpuid=890), and 2nd for air cooling worldwide.
I don't think I'll ever make it past 4.3ghz but this is as good as it gets!
Update - April 5th: Now placed 12th in the list. My ultimate goal would be to reach 4.313 and hit 4.4.
Now apparently there's a trick to getting higher speeds which would be to force 3 cores to enter sleep mode while the one core left would run at higher speeds.
I don't agree with this method. If you're going to overclock the bastard, overclock the whole damn thing and not just one core.
OCZ GameXstream 700w Get!
DFI LP Dk 790FXB-M2RSH Mobo Get!
Once those are in I can start assembling my cooling rig to which I will describe later on. I think it'll be worth it. I'm going to keep this thread updated as progress comes along and naturally I'll post plenty of pictures for everyone.
Update April 3rd
Time to let the cat outta the bag.
Air Conditioner + 0c Outside Air Intake = Massive Cold Air Intake Pipe.
So the AC is going to take the already cold outside air and cool it further, ramming the cold air into a shroud hooked to a pipe going into a closed box where the system will be cooled.
Now this varies a bit from my original idea where I wasn't going to use a box but hook the pipe directly to the Kaze's intake and let all hell break loose. But the downside of that is that the rest of the system wouldn't be cooled. The box would allow the rest of the components to run cooler (box idea taken from Slappa).
Picture time!So here you see the AC with a shroud I made from a lamp cover.http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww240/kaerfilatem/air%20conditioned%20oc/_DSC6636.jpg
