Quick testing athlon II 255

I honestly have been so busy I have not had the time to do what I would call a "review" of this chip. I will revisit it in the near future when time allows.

The cpu is an athlon II based dualcore clocked at a stock speed of 3100mhz and 2000mhz NB/HT

First up I opted to test this as close to real world conditions as possible to give users an idea of what can be expected for everyday usage.

Given the nature of this chip and it's targeted audience I decided to use a more budget oriented mobo/ram combination possible. I also chose not to run a tuned OS and just had a fresh install.

For that purpose I tossed all the fancy cooler's aside and donned a stock AMD heatsink and threw some prime 95 at it.

ATI radeon HD 4890






For benching you can acchieve a tad more.



Unfortunately the stock cooler could not manage the load for a 1m suicide, it would crash about the 7th loop so i tossed a xigamatek on and got it to run through.



I tried various heatsinks and even tossed a water setup on really quick but gains were minimal at best and for daily use I think that anything more than a stock cooler will be a waste.

I had a little extra time today to explore this cpu on phase change but nothing really thorough.



I tossed a large amount of benches at it to get a baseline of stability.




Ran some 3d while trying out high ram clocks and high HT.



Ran a quick untuned 1m.



I finally shredded the OS and tuned it for a quick 32m run.

Due to the fact that I have not done extensive testing I really can not draw any conclusions quite yet.

As far as a budget chip if I compare to my own personal x4 620 it appears the the IMC has improved and ram clocking is less strained and being able to max the chip without the help of a larger heatsink is welcome.

Looking forward to further torturing this chip and using other forms of cooling, if it survies the trials I think this chip may find it's way into my wife's "energy effecient" pc.

Awesome results on phase man, looks like these chips have a fairly strong IMC.

IMC appears strong, tried unlocking cores and cache, no luck. Maybe I need a bios update. Will investigate further when time permits.

Do you think these IMC improvements will carry over to the X4?

Also I don't think the AII X2 is unlockable IIRC it is native dual.
