HT Link and NB speeds in Vantage (lots of pics)

Did some benching runs with Vantage in Windows Mojave (7) x64

Dolk had given me a pointer on OCing to lower the HT link very low to get my CPU stable at 3600+ MHz. This helped quite a bit, but I was curious as to the effects it has.

So I ran benchmarks at stock mid OC and top OC to calcualte the effects.

HT Link speed hurts CPU performance, but helps with GPU performance.

NB speed is very important, but you do not need crazy high NB until you exceed 3300MHz on the CPU.

    Mmory speed as follows
    200REF 800MHz 4-4-4-12-20-2T
    240REF 800MHz 4-4-4-12-20-1T
    260REF 690MHz 4-4-4-10-16-1T

Beer drinking is like finger painting. When you are young, you do not care what you stick your fingers into as long as you got to do it. When you are older, eww Heineken? I really want a beer that comes from the factory skunked?

    Thanks for the results.

Tony was showing very weird data that high HT-Link (past 2GHz) lowers Vantage performance. What happens if you OC the HT-Link to say 2G and 2.2G (keeping NB fixed)?

Neuro can you give some memory details? fsb, speed, timings ect..... I can see them but it is a pain scrolling.

People that buy OEM systems think Linux was a Charlie Brown character, a registry is something you see at target to buy shower gifts, RAM is a Dodge truck and a hard drive is DC at rush hour.

I would not say those results are wierd. More that, the benefit of increasing link speed hits a point that is probably close to stock. The higher the CPU speed the more this seems to make a differnce, I will be doing more testing to find out what hte happy medium is (were it stops helping 3d performance. My tests were running 60% of the HT Link speed he is though, so that needs to be considered as well. (Also he was multiplier clocking, not HTREF clocking, might have an influence as well)

I guess that what the combination of tests shows is that, if you have the need for bandwidth, HT link speed is important. At what what speed it stops effecting anything remains to be seen, it is something I am intent on finding out though.

Fighting a massive sinus infection right now, but managed to clear out some space in my workshop so that I can run some more tests. Hopefully within a week I will be able to get some more testing done. I have Mojave build 7127 in 32 and 64 bit flavors. I will be installing both, so hopefully will be able to see if that makes any difference as well. (It should not, since none of these tests are 64bit, but you never know) (7127 supposedly improves gaming compatability, and thats what my super socket AM2+ rig is )

Once I get the PC out of the case, I will take some measurements and see if that Thermalright bolt through kit for the TRUE will fit the tuniq. If it does not I will have to figure out how to fashion one (I do not have any tempered steel sheet laying around. Might have to rig something up and temper it myself Or hack up this 1U heatinsk that came with my Jetway ITX board enough to double as a mounting bracket.

I went bargain basment shopping for my hardware so unfortunately I will not be able to provide the same set of results that alot of guys are getting. 3600MHZ on a 940BE or an AM3 socket setup, seems to be rather simple to do. Not so easy on the 920 . (At least not on my hardware) I have a feeling I might be pushing the 3800MHz CPUZ validation before it gets too hot here... but 24/7 stability/benchmarking seems to be limited to 3.6ish.

I have been reading Brian's memory thread, obviously he is not goingto give away all his secrets, but the information he has released is very informative, and hopefully I will be able to apply it in my situation.

Also intend to go through some of the more obscure BIOS listings and test them out (off the top of my head, NB-SB ASPM supposedly improves 3d performance, I turned it on and lost audio... so dunno, and another that is listed with it)

    Archer.

I will get that done later today.

Thanks It will be interesting to see all of this information relative to base.

Glad someone does I have time but I am nursing a wounded hand. I think I will start putting holes in all trespassing animals if I don't know where they belong. A cat can do some major damage for their size (READ: nerve and tendon damage from one bite to the knuckle.)

Yah RL does get in the way alot with benching

With that ASUS board coming next week, I am taking a break from it and going to get some game time in I think

Take care of that hand, its not too hard typing one handed but with one hand OOC, you will either have to drink your beer through a straw or stop posting

(I would chose stop posting LOL I like beer too much )

Bah finally got the 920on the M4A79 Deluxe and it HATES HTREF

Looking for 0903 bios now (per a post I saw in Chews thread over at XS about this board) some guy was running 300 HTT which is about the max I could do on my Foxconn. (at lower multi of course)

Oh and also have some LV Blades coming next week, so hoping that helps too. Might be my 800 4-4-4 Pi ram holding me back on the foxconn, on this crappy more expensive asus board though, (that can not run 400 or 533 mem divider) so hopefully will get some better results within a month
