That they don't need a GPU, AMD or Intel. Now I would love to see some daily tasks using a setup like that. Maybe I should say impressions, I don't know if any of you have been graced with having to use a PC that is not up to speed to run aero, let me tell you, it sucks, and turning it off doesn't help much for some reason. And what about ram, will more ram help in these cases?

HardOCP's Bulldozer gaming review was very telling. They tested Crossfire and SLI, where the tests were no longer GPU limited at any resolution. Bulldozer got destroyed by everything Intel.

You are always a slave to your least fastest part in your system. sometimes it is a really fragged hard drive or it runs slow. or it could be Ram. Ram is the Silver bullet in alot of cases ... When I went from DDr2 1066 to DDr3 1333 I noticed a big increase in speed and tasks. I also know tha the most ram for a 32. Bit Windows is about 3.2 Ghz. So if you can get 4 gigs of ram, that is great. If you are running amd? I would invest in one of the AM3 955 quad cores. They are at an excellent price right now and your areo will work amazing. Also your video card can have a effect on Areo. You need to at least have about a 5350 Radeon or a 8800 NVidia graphics card to run good areo..

Thanks DUKE... I would like those numbers clarified if possible. The statement is very confusing. I don't doubt the data. We know that the 2600K is still killing the Bulldozer in almost every test, but what does this data mean.

This article introduces an update that optimizes the performance of AMD Bulldozer CPUs that are used by Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computers. Currently, the performance of AMD Bulldozer CPUs is slower than expected. This behavior occurs because the threading logic in Windows 7 and in Windows Server 2008 R2 is not optimized to use the Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) scheduling feature. This feature was introduced in the Bulldozer family of AMD CPU
It seems that Windows is trying to either Help AMD stay in business or there is really a patch that is out that helps the Bulldozer do what it was created to do. Maybe bulldozer was too much, too soon. I don't know. what I do know is that its not going away and the next gen I hope, will be AM3+ compatible.

    AMD Bulldozer FX Win7 Patch
    This time it is OFFICIAL!

    Straight from the horses mouth!

    Blog.AMD.com

The original patch released by Microsoft last month was an incomplete patch that was leaked to the public by accident; which was widely publicized and eventually Microsoft did a "repatch" to undo the bad one.. with Microsoft stating the the Patch will not be complete until January 2012...

    ...and here we are!

According to AMD, the "official" patch is now complete and available for download from Microsoft.

Some of you may remember that AMD FX processors use a unique dual-core module architecture codenamed “Bulldozer”, which current versions of Windows® 7 were not specifically architected to utilize. In essence, for those with an AMD FX-8150 Processor, for example, Windows 7 sees the eight available cores and randomly assigns threads to them.

In initial testing of the upcoming Windows 8 operating system, we’ve seen performance improvements of up to 10% in some applications, when compared to Windows 7. This is because the system correctly recognizes the AMD FX processor architecture and cores. Thanks to close collaboration between Microsoft and AMD, Microsoft recently completed back-porting some of the Windows 8 scheduler code for AMD FX processors into a hotfix for Windows 7.

So if you have an AMD FX processor, here’s what you can do to update your version of Windows 7:

    1) Download the scheduler update (KB2645594) and install. This will tell the scheduler that your AMD FX processor contains dual-core modules (in fact this is similar to the SMT path that the other guys use). In essence, threads 1-4 now get assigned to their own module first.

    2) Download the core parking scheduler update (KB2646060) and install. This will prevent Windows 7 shutting down unused cores prematurely when there are threads to be assigned (there’s a performance penalty parking and then un-parking a core).

The best possible cases for improvement are applications that use ½ cores in your AMD FX processor. In our testing using the AMD FX-8150 processor, we found the best improvement in wPrime, Left 4 Dead 2, and Lost Planet. Below you’ll find links to the patches:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2646060

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2645594

Our testing shows that not every application realizes a performance boost. In fact, heavily threaded apps (those designed to use all 8 cores), get little or no uplift from this hotfix – they are already maxing out the processor. In other cases, the uplift averages out to a 1-2 percent uplift. But heck, it is free performance, and this is the scheduler model that will be used in Windows 8 (along with some further enhancements), so why not add it to your list of downloads?

If you have an AMD FX processor, head over to Microsoft and grab the free updates.

I can't wait to see some official benchmarking results with this, compared to the i5-2500K and the newer i7's... cause I am still considering one for my second system.

    Yea. Me too
When the new Stable of FX chips make the Scene. I am looking for a little more. Maybe 8170 Fx or maybe an 8200 series that doesnt take 230 watts to overclock it to 4.6 Ghz.
