[Official] Food thread
I am a master of using what is around me to make meals. I often substitute corn for meat.. not because I am a vegan just because I am broke.
I know to add a little water to microwave reheated dishes..
I know to microwave at 50% power to prevent rubber bread/meat
I prefer the grill to the stove and know that a good pot/pan is so easy to cook with.
Lets talk recipes
2 cups cooked rice, a few big TBspoons of ricotta mixed in.~
Cover with fried meat. (hamburger meat is a good choice substitute your own) 1-2 pounds
drizzle with mozzarella or cheddar cheese up to you how much more mozza or less cheddah
cover with stewed tomatoes. 2-normal can size 1 large can
Cover with Parmesan/Romano cheese. sprinkle till covered
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes covered, and 10-15 more uncovered.
when you server, dig from top to bottom, rice should be the base... i
Yummy.. gotta mix it up and IMHO needs salt but pretty much everything does.
Other tips..
Meat on grill.. preheat grill. turn it to low. DO NOT keep openeing it to check meat. 3=5 minutes in, check it an flip it. Do not marinate it before cooking it, unless it is old or cheap meat. A good piece of meat stands on its own. If you dont like the meat you are eating change brands/shop somewhere else.
I love my generic chicken breasts now that I know know how to cook them. Nice and juicy. Cant stand reheated chicken or cold chicken. dont do it! Cook just enough for your needs. Add BBQ sauce almost when done grilling if needed, helps prevent the black spots the kids hate. poke it with a fork while cooking to get the BBQ into the meat.
One pot master cooking.
Cook hotdogs and macaroni and cheese in the same pot. Pull hot dogs half way into cooking and cut them up into dimes. Drain noodles when done, add hotdogs do the sauce mix. yummy. Can substitute corn for meat. Also works for ramen except add parm.
bologna fried is a good meat for sandwiches, whether eggs for breakfast or cheese for lunch.
Bologna or Hotdogs beef is the only way to go. If you do not care, you do not, I care and cant eat 99 cent hotdogs or 99 centa pound bologna. only beef.
For pancakes.. which are so easy. out of/low on syrup? mix in a packet of hot cocoa into the batter mix. yummy chocolate pancakes...
Ramen corn and parm.
Rice and beans.
spinach (just spinach, doesnt mix well imo, just love it and one cant get enough)
eg sandwiches with horseysauce. (its like mayonnaise mixed with horseradish...) herll horsey sauce on any sammich is yummy. Especially hame or beef.
If on east coast, piece of pork roll one egg and a english muffin with a slice of white American and mayo. without pork roll, yellow American works better or even cheddar. damn I wish I had bread.

Beer drinking is like finger painting. When you are young, you do not care what you stick your fingers into as long as you got to do it. When you are older, eww Heineken? I really want a beer that comes from the factory skunked?

Well I do things a little different on the grill. I like rare steaks and I turn up the heat all the way (GAS) or stoke the flames (Smoker). I throw the steaks on and when they do not stick I flip them until the other side does not stick. Hey done steal (beef in general). I do cut the heat for pork and Chicken but the hardest for me on the grill is fish fillets. Shark steak I cook at slightly lower heat than beef. Yeah mucho fish because it is just cheaper per pound these days.

Yup thats how most people do meat on the grill. I dont like mine to still moo anymore so I do lower heat, and cook it a little longer. Still stays juicy and doesnt get black hard pieces on it .

My ex went on about gluten allergies for about 6 months. that wheat free bread and pasta you buy in the store is gross. Making your own sounds like a much better idea

Oh it is but the grain mill I bought is the wrong type. I need a flour mill
More money out. I have realized that all these wheat products we eat are killing us though. I have lost ~20 pounds and I am not trying to lose weight! I do eat as much as I want but it is what I eat.
For lunch yesterday I had Tilapia grilled with paprika, onion powder, turmeric, marjoram and cilantro with balsamic vinegar poured over them as they cooked. I put these over fresh uncooked spinach topped with fresh shredded parmesan cheese, crushed red pepper and fresh ground black pepper topped with more vinegar. Might sound expensive but have you seen the cost of beef and chicken these days?

Had to look that up, fresh water fish sounds like something you caught yourself? I wish I liked fish, so many varieties would make meals more interesting.
I cant stand even someone else eating it in the house though, it smells so gross.

These are farm raised and not from around my parts.
The way I cook them is the key. I can't stand the smell of fried fish. The spices and vinegar take most of the fishy away.
