I am going to install a media server for 5 current PCs with the plans of 5 more in the future.
It will need to be a functional HTPC as well.
My question is, is the G6950 strong enough or should I use a quad or better?
BTW: This will also evolve into a server for friends and family when I get my static IP.

Hmmm, good question. As a media server (sharing media files across a network), it should work just fine with enough memory and a good NIC. If it also needs to be an HTPC, than the GPU will come into question.

That would be just fine. My HTPC/Server is running a sempron 140 (dual core)

Well I am going with a 2ND network. I have purchased a 2TB internal 5900RPM seagate and and external WD 2TB HDD with shadowing/syncing software. Also I am setting up a wired/300N network seperate from my wireless for movies and music.
The server setup (actually Win7 Ultimate 64; with shares)
CPU Intel G6950
MB ASUS P7P55D-E
Memory 6 GB GSkill DDR3 1600
Boot Drive WD SATA 3 250GB
Storage Seagate 5900RPM 2TB
250ft Cat 6
BELKIN Surf N300 Wireless Router 10/100 router. I did not waste money on a Gigabit as I am waiting on the 10GBs that is why I am running CAT 6 550 Mhz wire.
