    Needing new Laptop ...

As you can see I am selling my gaming laptop in the FS section *cough* make an offer *cough*

I am in the market for a new laptop with a little less GPU and CPU power, but more battery life and the such.

    My needs:
    needs a card reader
battery life, battery life, battery life
    HDMI

    My wants:
Would love a 17.3" screen ... makes working so much easier

Other than that anything else is a perk

    I was looking at ....
    Newegg.com - ASUS A73 Series A73E-XE1 Notebook Intel Core i3 2310M(2.10GHz) 17.3" 6GB Memory 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics 3000
    Newegg.com - HP g7-1310us Notebook Intel Core i3 2350M(2.30GHz) 17.3" 6GB Memory DDR3 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD Graphics 3000
    TOSHIBA Satellite L775D-S7330 Notebook AMD A-Series A6-3400M(1.4GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 6520G

^^ Just to give you ideas of what I have already been adding to my list.

How well will the AMD A-Series A6-3400M CPU do? It gets better battery life than the 2 other I3 CPU's I believe... I am basically needing a web surfing, review typing, image looking at machine.

    Thoughts?

i really like the lenovo with the amd e series apu
    Newegg.com - ThinkPad Edge E525 (120038U ) Notebook AMD Dual-Core Processor E2-3000M(1.8GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1333 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 6380G

they only come in 15.6" or smaller though, but they have much better build quality and easy access to the heatsinks so u can fix the thermal paste and change out parts

that toshiba looks nice but i dont trust them or HP anymore, and u really dont want an intel integrated only laptop as if u watch video it will rape the battery

why dont you trust toshiba or HP anymore? how is ASUS in the laptop market? Never really hear anything about them.

Also, why does intel integrated kill the battery life so bad?

intel integrated dose not have hardware acceleration so anything flash or video kills battery as it uses alot of cpu and kicks it up in the p-state.

on HP, they dont honor warranties and they use bad componants but still cost more than say an acer that is made with mid grade and sold as such, and toshiba has had bios problems recently with cpus that get stuck on the lowest or highest pstate, they seam to have fans that die 2 years out or make strange noises and i hate their commercials.

on asus, they have made laptops for a long time, they used to be rebranded pegatron but now they are foxconn designed by sagger for the most part and they are solid like any of the sagger stuff (also msi or origine or any of the other more gaming companies and some dell are the same), i like their stuff bet they are mostly cpu+gpu and thats not like what u linked.

At this price range llano is hard to beat, unless you specifically are after CPU power. But lets be perfectly honest, anything will do for what you intend to use it for What about an even cheaper laptop, but with and SSD added to it?

Rigs similar to this is what I've recommended for friends and family. Quad, and decent graphics

Uh, newegg is nice for listing laptops, dont actually buy one from them LOL

A6 series laptop 17" screen 1600x900 res LED backlit, doesnt list a card reader but I see one in the side. 5.5hr battery life $450

    HP - Pavilion Laptop - Pewter - g7-1365dx

haha, ya I don't plan on buying from them I have found everything I listed cheaper elsewhere. They just format everything so nicely

But, HP's scare me. I have not really ever heard anything good about them in the past few years ... basically everything Zans said plus more ...

    Just making sure

My cousin bought his a wife a nice core i5 setup for Christmas about $450 IIRC. Only problem is the smaller screen/res.

Last good laptop I saw with a good screen was a pee3/Quadro based laptop with a 1600x1200 res monitor. It did not function properly though so I had to send it back to cowboom

$750 looks to be about the cheapest 1080P I can see. And it happens to be cheapest at newegg as well :O

you can thanks ASUS for breaking the $1000 1080p barrier (MSRP is $950)

It would need more/faster RAM. at least 1333MHz, and maybe upgrade to an SSD. Should be similar/better performance than your current desktop replacement.

"Battery life is decent, on power save mode I get a tad less than 6 hours of programming with some wifi/web browsing mixed in."

@Neuro see, when you list a laptop with the same specs as a Blade for less than a third of the cost, it makes me feel bad for wanting a blade.

I love my ASUS G71. If you can find one for under 500 maybe just grab it.. The GTX260 makes it worthwhile.

If you are on the lowest screen and power settings.
