Unveiled at CeBIT 2010 in March, the Eee PC 1001PQ netbook, which is focused on providing a simple and safe computing experience for kids, has now started to become available in Europe, just in time for the parental nightmare that is the back-to-school shopping season.

The new Pine Trail-based machine has a Flame Purple or Vibrant Gold finish, comes with stickers for extra customization, the Inspirus preteen-friendly interface (on top of Windows 7 Starter), built-in parental controls, and packs a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) display, a 1.66 GHz Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, integrated graphics, a 0.3 megapixel webcam, and a 3- or 6-cell battery.

The Eee PC 1001PQ can be found here and costs €299.
